In the middle of the lake is the concrete ruins of an ancient (sports) arena known as "ton Coliseum." The "ton," as it is called, is an island with the open-air arena floor actually several feet below the level of the lake's surface. The only way to the arena is by boat or by flying. The arena isn't far from the shore, but swimming is not recommended (nor are smaller boats such as canoe). Something lives in the lake, but no one knows what -- well, some do, but they're not around anymore.
When Porker, Badder, Hoop and other mutant gangs want to settle a score, but don't want to expend resources, they can challenge one another to a smaller battle in the ton Coliseum. Other wasteland inhabitants come to witness these spectacles and to bet coin and supplies on the outcome. The contenders usually put up territories or leadership rights as wagers; and sometimes the battles are for supplies, including omega tech.
There are very few rules. Contestants must observe a truce when they travel to the ton, and must immediately forfeit whatever they wagered on the fight, but there are no rules protecting the spectators or detailing how a fight is to proceed. Sometimes, while a small battle rages in the arena, a much larger battle might be fought among the spectators.
Besides the fights, the ton is a wealth of information about Middle Meriga.
A small note: Archivists often visit the ruins around the lake searching for ancient technology known as "The 'Clones." They haven't found anything, but they keep searching.
